VS Code Copilot skills

VS Code Copilot skills are SKILL.md files Copilot Chat loads from ~/.copilot/skills. That path is Copilot's, not the VS Code extensions folder. Add myagents to MCP config, then ask Copilot Chat to install a catalog slug.

A marketplace VSIX and a Copilot skill are different installs. This page covers agent skills Copilot Chat loads for a matching job. User MCP lives in user mcp.json. Workspace MCP lives in .vscode/mcp.json. Personal skills go to ~/.copilot/skills. A repo-scoped copy can also live at .github/skills/<slug>/SKILL.md.

Skill format: VS Code Copilot docs.

How to install a Copilot skill in VS Code

  1. Add the servers.myagents HTTP block to user mcp.json (every window) or .vscode/mcp.json (this repo).
  2. In Copilot Chat, ask for install_skill with the slug. If tools are hidden, attach the myagents server from the chat tool picker.
  3. Confirm when Copilot shows ~/.copilot/skills/<slug>/SKILL.md. For a project checkout, copy the same file to .github/skills/<slug>/SKILL.md.

Open the SKILL.md path in the editor. Reload the window if Copilot Chat still misses it. Configure Chat → Skills should list the name. Agents go to ~/.copilot/agents/<slug>.md.

mkdir -p ~/.copilot/skills/<slug> and save SKILL.md, then reload VS Code. Frontmatter needs name and description. Repo copies use .github/skills/<slug>/.

Copilot agent markdown lives in ~/.copilot/agents. install_agent writes those files on the same server as skills.

Click a card for the slug, then finish in Copilot Chat. VS Code Copilot skills on this list do not install from the Extensions view.
